Sean-Nós Workshop (Irish Gaelic Song Workshop)
Where: Berkeley, California
When: Sat. May 25th 2:00 - 4:30
From Mythology to Monasteries
(a journey in ancient Irish song)
A special concert from Mary Mc Laughlin and her Cór Ainglí woman's chorus, followed by a workshop on the next day.
This concert and workshop will feature material from Mary’s new album Sacred Days, Mythic Ways as well as material from her previous albums. The songs are drawn from the pre-Christian (mythological tradition) as well as early Latin Chant which deeply influenced the Irish tradition from the 8th century onwards.
The concert will be performed by Mary and her nine-piece Cór Ainglí, creating glorious harmony and interpreting Latin chant like you probably have never heard it sung before!
The following day Mary will teach a three hour workshop on the theme of the concert and contextualize Latin Chant in the Irish tradition. Songs will be in Irish (Gaelic) and Latin but no previous knowledge of either language is needed as Mary is a veteran teacher of Irish song to non-Irish speakers and uses phonetic aids.
