Gaelic Choirs

Cór Ainglí

The Cór Ainglí (Angelic Choir) is a choir based in Santa Cruz California.  Mary formed this choir in 2006 to perform Gaelic Christmas songs.  She teaches through phonetics so there is no requirement to be able to read Gaelic.  There is no requirement to read music if you come from an aural rather than classical background.

There is, however, a requirement to be able to sing on pitch, to hold a part in a choir that sings three and four parts and to blend with others in the choir.  The solos are performed by Mary and there is usually a featured performance included in the concert.

A workshop style group audition is held in early September.  This is followed by weekly rehearsals until December.  The rehearsals normally happen in downtown Santa Cruz on a Sunday afternoon.  Choir members are led through pronunciation and are given sheet music and a pronunciation CD to work with at home.  Although choir members are not expected to memorize the material, they are expected to be very familiar with their part and practice in between the rehearsals.

There are two or three performances in the Santa Cruz area in December – dates for 2007 to be soon finalized .

If you are interested in auditioning for the Cór Ainglí’s 2007 series please email Mary expressing your interest and a little bit about your background.  She will send out dates / location as soon as they are firmed up.

Create your own Cór Ainglí

If you are interested in having your Choir sing a Gaelic Christmas Chorus Mary offers the following package: She will work with a Choir Director to teach the songs to an established choir.  She will start off the project with an intense workshop on pronunciation, leave sheet music and pronunciation CDs for the choir to rehearse with and then come back for the final rehearsals and perform solo with the choir.
Please email Mary for further details if you are interested in this unique opportunity.
